Before founding Melius Family Law, Archie was a partner at Hughes Fowler Carruthers where he worked for over a decade.
Archie has wide ranging experience in all areas of family law, and in particular on complicated financial cases, divorce, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, co-habitation agreements, matters relating to children, and international law. He often acts for clients with public profiles, occasionally in the context of press interest, and does so with discretion and sensitivity.
He consistently ensures the best outcomes for his clients, working tirelessly for them, and has a proven track record of resolving the most complicated cases.
The Chambers UHNW 2025 Guide records that “Archie is very good at dealing with very complex cases”, is “a pragmatic and constructive lawyer” and “is incredibly smooth and charming, and really good with fragile, nervy clients who need to feel someone is on their side”.
The Chambers UK 2023 Guide records that “He is absolutely terrific; he is very client-friendly and conscientious.” He is commended as being “A rising star without a shadow of a doubt,” and “bright, pragmatic and hard-working. He is a brilliant lawyer who gets things done with a very measured and dignified approach.” He is further praised for being “utterly affable and absolutely excellent to deal with.”
In the Chambers HNW 2022 Guide, Archie is commended as being “incredibly hard working” and a source notes that “when there’s a case with immense detail, he’s who you want on your side”. He is praised as “very clever, extremely numerate, and has very good judgement”.
According to a client, he is a “brilliant solicitor with an unflappable demeanour and a much needed sense of humour“.
Archie was a key contributor to the Third Edition of International Trust and Divorce Litigation, which has been described as “the must have leading authority providing an indispensable steer for lawyers, trust practitioners, bankers and others through the legal jungle that is international trusts in a divorce law context”.
Archie also co-wrote a chapter on family law in the recently published Global Mobility of Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals, which has been described as an invaluable tool for lawyers, tax advisers, bankers and all professionals who assist UHNWIs.
Archie recently spoke at the Contentious Trusts Association’s Trusts in Litigation Conference 2024 in Budapest on the interrelationship between trusts and divorce, offering advice for trustees onshore and offshore dealing with matrimonial proceedings.
